Carla Bekkering is originally from Abbotsford British Columbia. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Simon Fraser University in 1987. She then pursued her law degree and graduated from the University of Victoria in 1991. She articled at a prominent Vancouver law firm and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1992. Carla was selected as a judicial clerk for the Tax Court of Canada and completed her clerkship in Ottawa, Ontario and then returned to British Columbia. Carla Bekkering is one of the founding partners of Bekkering York and has been practicing in civil litigation her entire career. She has appeared in the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
Carla is a member of Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and, the ADR Institute of British Columbia (ADRBC). Carla is also an active volunteer in the legal community and has served on committees for the Canadian Bar Association, including a tenure as the chair of the Automobile Insurance Committee. She has acted as a mentor for the Woman Lawyers Forum of the Canadian Bar Association and as a mentor for the University of Victoria and as a paralegal supervisor with Amici Curiae. Carla has recently been appointed as President of the Board of Directors of ADRBC. Prior to being appointed to the Board, Carla has served as a board member for the MSA Museum Society.
Carla is a Qualified Mediator and a Chartered Arbitrator with ADR BC. Carla is also an adjudicator for the Ministry of the Attorney General Bylaw Adjudication Program and an approved mediator for the Law Society of British Columbia Fee Mediation Program. She practices law in the area of civil litigation and she also works in the area of alternative dispute resolution. Carla conducts arbitrations in the areas of UMP, Contract Disputes and Total Vehicle Loss.
